Hello Camper Door!

Following our previous post; Summer Head Scratchin’, we tackled the in between realm of the doorways!

At first, there was a lot of standing around, chin rubbing and the occasional “hhmmm”…

Amidst the planning and pondering, we discovered a squatter!

Summer Head Scratchin’

So we have been a little quiet over the previous few weeks and have not shared too much of our journey, the main truth being all of our spare mental energy has been focused into learning, solving, researching and making decisions… the adventures of the campervan conversion!

So a few pictures from the summer months and what we have achieved…

School Bus Campervan Conversion Continues…

Following our previous post about whether or not to keep the original bus doors, we decided to put those thoughts aside for the time being, whilst we continued with windows!

Firstly we made a window sized hole! (All measured correctly of course)

Next we inserted our brand new motorhome window! Double glazed should help prevent drafts come the frosty winter months.

As our windows were coming on nicely, we thought about the last remaining bus windows.. the rooflights. Initially these were an awesome feature when we purchased the bus however we soon realised that they were the bringers of drippy leaky watery doom!

Early Morning Surprises

Did I mention that in Jon’s excitement, he has been greeting the sun to work on the bus early in the morning and making massive progress! A nice surprise when I went to join him.

So Jon was working on removing those “busy” features that still remained. He took an angle grinder to this wheelchair lift which ended up being so heavy that we both had to leave it where it fell, to await the scrap man!

Check out the inside now! Wooden frames, aluminium, insulating foil and lots of celotex insulation later-

And the outside is also coming together!

Through The Threshold

Our yellow school bus camper conversion has taken a turn as, following the ripping out stage, we have now decided that we need to undertake some bodywork to the bus, before we can progress with any internal work.

Our gaze switched to the windows…

As you would probably agree, there are quite a lot of windows in our bus and although this is great for the light, it is rather an open space and takes away that private cosy feel.

To begin with, we experimented with tinting a window which we felt would of been a fairly quick and economic solution. However it was soon apparent that the existing bus windows were not only vast but also rather drippy with leaks, not to mention they took up valuable cupboard and storage space!

From all this speculation, we decided on purchasing some fairly economic sheets of aluminium, which we would use to replace the windows and build the walls back into the bus. Following this, we would then look into acquiring some efficient double glazed windows, specifically for campervans/ motorhomes.

But first, time to play with windows…
